I have unraid with a 250 gig SSD and 10T total using 2T HDDs. New shows get recorded to SSD and copied to the protected array in the middle of the night. 10 hours ago · A future release will include support for multiple "Unraid array" pools. Jul 19, 2013 · unRAID, FlexRAID and SnapRAID all run on the same basic premises with different file systems and applications. I have virtually no experience with SnapRAID but FlexRAID is faster than unRAID. unRAID overhead seems to max out the array around 80MB/s even with the best spinners. FlexRAID will be only limited by the speed of the drives.

Unraid is not a RAID but can manage an array of drives that vary in size, speed, brand, and filesystem. In addition, by eliminating the use of traditional RAID-based technologies, it can scale...

what is the purpose of the array? i thought it was just like a pc with multiple drives and you can set it up in raid configuration. and i thought cache was for temporary file download or frequently accessed files. but seems more like just a different type of storage separate from the rest. Unraid is not a raid server. The array is just a ...Stop array and power down. Replace one of the smaller drives with the new larger drive and power up. • Under traditional RAID, an entire disk storage system of, say, 100 disks would be split into multiple arrays each of, say, 10 disks. By contrast, under declustered RAID, the entire storage system is used to make one array. Every data item is written twice, as in mirroring, but logically adjacent data and copies are spread arbitrarily.

I added a 6Tb parity drive and have removed one of the 2Gb drives and added another 6Tb drive. An array rebuild is now in progress. All good there (so far - touch wood, etc) I will be adding a further two 6Tb drives over the next couple of days. Unraid was a new twist on an older technology that didn’t require all the devices in an array to be continually spun up, thereby reducing power consumption, and increasing the lives of the drives. I’m very excited about what the future holds for Lime Technology as we continue to be on the forefront of digital media storage innovation. Nov 27, 2016 · Stop array and power down. Go back to the main unRAID management page, if the drives are new, or if they have any other file-system other than reiserfs, they will appear as "unformatted" You will need to check the checkbox to format them. this will erase any data that was previously on them by first clearing them and then partitioning and formatting them with a reiserfs file-system.

Over the years I've lost data (nothing critical, mostly media) that has made the wife a little leary of storing her personal stuff (and our family pics) on it, and I don't blame her.

It would be possible to spread the risk over more disks when the data is split by mutliple arrays. Statistically, the over all reliability gets lower and lower, the more drives you add to a single array with its max. 2 parity disks. With multiple arrays, this could be prohibited. Edited August 17 by Ralf.SNAP for unRAID Server. SNAP: Share Non-Array Partitions. Add storage devices to an unRAID server without them being part of the unRAID array. Adding a device to SNAP means that it's filesystem will be mounted to make it available in linux and shared out to make it available on the network.

Mar 08, 2019 · Unraid is more wide-ranging. You can use it as storage, yes, but also as an application server or virtualization host. You don’t have to have a separate system for each use case either. One Unraid-powered device can function as an NAS, application server, and virtualization host.

Edited August 17 by Ralf.Due to the fact that unRAID does not utilise striping this means you have the ability to use multiple hard drives with differing sizes, types, etc. This also has the benefit of making the array more resistant to data loss because your data isn't striped across multiple disks.

Now there is another approach, maybe instead of supporting multiple arrays, you go with the multiple Unraid servers for different purposes and the management console itself is changed to enable the management of multiple Unraid servers as if they were one that has multiple arrays, that would solve the administrivia nightmare of having multiple Unraid servers (VM'd or not). This would also be good for backup servers (which I have)

I’m currently using around 30TB on my QNAP so this would give me plenty of headroom for the next few years. The cache disk feature of unRAID greatly increases the perceived performance of the system when writing data to a parity-protected array. It is particularly useful for users who write data to the array on a regular basis, and can also be used as a scratch disc for certain applications. The feature was introduced in version 4.3.1 day ago · unRAID Array The primary concept behind an unRAID array is its ability to manage an aggregate of disk devices (JBOD) that is protected by a dedicated parity device. It will also utilize the multiple drives to improve the performance of the drive array, including MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) and fault-tolerance. Unnest multiple arrays into rows. IMO, the best way to work around this is to set it up so that unRAID has the array that benefits most directly from the unRAID features like the webGUI, docker containers, VMs, etc. Try to arrange everything so that your other arrays can basically be storage only. Then your other arrays can go on something like OMV+Snapraid.
